Beware of Scam Texts Claiming to Be Fixed Penalty Notices

We’ve been made aware of a scam involving text messages that falsely claim the recipient has a fixed penalty notice to pay.

The message references traffic offence code RR84707, (a speeding offence) and includes a link for payment, warning that failure to pay will result in court action. These texts have been sent from various mobile numbers, which appear to originate from the Philippines.

If you receive such a message:

Thames Valley Police will never request payment of fines via text message or include payment links. If you’re unsure about a message, check the sender’s phone number and look out for unusual or international area codes.
